1. Directory source
The current directory records are derived from OpenStreetMap data retrieved through the Overpass API. The extraction selected features tagged as fuel stations, convenience stores, tobacco shops, or e-cigarette shops. A Python extraction script compiled the results, which were later published as a Google Sheets CSV for use by the site.
Inland Empire tobacco-retailer coverage is supplemented by the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration's licensed cigarette and tobacco retailer data. The state map records were matched to the agency's downloadable retailer workbook when a named business record was available.
County and community classifications use U.S. Census Bureau 2025 TIGER/Line county and place boundaries. License coordinates were spatially checked against those boundaries instead of relying only on mailing-city names.
Reproductive-health clinic locations and service fields come exclusively from the HHS Title X Family Planning Clinic Locator. Only clinics whose current federal record explicitly lists emergency contraception are included in this layer. Generic product names and categories are sourced separately from FDA and openFDA records; clinic records are not treated as proof of live product inventory.
2. Attribution and license
Directory and map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL). The HookedUp.org directory database derived from that data is made available under the same license.
California tobacco-license data is published by the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration. The agency's Conditions of Use state that information presented on its website is generally in the public domain and may be distributed or copied as permitted by law.
TIGER/Line geographic boundary files are federal government material. Their use here is limited to assigning license coordinates to Riverside County, San Bernardino County, incorporated places, census-designated places, and remaining rural county areas.
Source citation: 2025 TIGER/Line Shapefiles (machine-readable data files), prepared by the U.S. Census Bureau, 2025. The boundaries are used for statistical classification and are not legal land descriptions.
Reuse status:OpenStreetMap directory data may be reused under the ODbL with attribution and share-alike compliance. The cited CDTFA records are generally public-domain California government information, subject to the agency's exceptions for third-party material and official marks. Census Bureau TIGER/Line files are United States government works and may be reproduced with the source citation above.
Title X clinic records are retrieved from the official HHS locator API. The federal Data.gov catalog identifies the dataset as public and licenses it under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. HookedUp retains source attribution and source links for these records. Product catalog entries link to FDA or openFDA source records and do not reproduce third-party retailer or provider descriptions.
3. Download the directory database
Download the current directory dataset as CSV. Released versions should retain the OpenStreetMap attribution and ODbL notice above.
Download the Inland Empire tobacco-license location dataset as JSON. The file records its state source and data date and should retain those fields when reused.
Download the unincorporated directory-area lookup as JSON. This lookup connects OpenStreetMap record identifiers to Census geographic areas and should retain both source notices when reused.
Download the Inland Empire public-health clinic dataset as JSON. The file retains a verification date, service-source links, and the distinction between clinic services and live product inventory.
4. Current research coverage
The current research area is the Inland Empire, defined here as the complete geographic boundaries of Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The July 2, 2026 California source data contains 3,306 license points inside those boundaries, consolidated by street address into 3,236 physical locations.
The boundary audit covers all 52 incorporated places and all 75 Census designated places in the two counties. Licensed locations were found in all 52 incorporated places, 64 of the 75 census-designated places, and rural county areas outside named Census places. This added 258 locations that the earlier mailing-city search did not capture.
No license point was located inside the current boundaries of Desert Center, Indio Hills, Lake Riverside, Mesa Verde, Ripley, Romoland, Sky Valley, Whitewater, Bluewater, Fort Irwin, or Mountain View Acres. The OpenStreetMap directory separately identifies one location in Desert Center, one in Ripley, and two in Fort Irwin. Bluewater, Indio Hills, Lake Riverside, Mesa Verde, Mountain View Acres, Romoland, Sky Valley, and Whitewater remain alternate-source or manual-verification gaps. Absence from these two sources is not evidence that no retailer exists.
Some locations appear under a generic label because the state's downloadable workbook does not publish individual-licensee identity data, and not every map point can be matched to a named workbook row. A state license record establishes retailer-list status, not the presence of any particular product or current availability.
5. Limits of the data
A listing category does not establish that a retailer currently stocks any particular product. Product inventory and availability fields were intentionally left unknown unless separately verified. Listings may be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate, so visitors should confirm details directly with the business.
When a visitor chooses a product category, the map shows public directory locations whose retailer type is a reasonable place to check—for example, convenience stores for drinks or licensed tobacco retailers for tobacco products. These are candidate retailers, not product observations. The result count must not be read as the number of stores confirmed to carry that product.
6. Personal Health Products research scope
This category covers external and internal condoms, nonprescription levonorgestrel emergency contraception, nonprescription norgestrel daily birth control, spermicides, personal lubricants, and legal non-ingestible sexual-wellness products and devices. A product appears as a sighting only when reusable evidence supports both the product and the specific location.
Ingestible products marketed for sexual enhancement—including pills, honey, gummies, and chocolates—are not treated as safe or lawful merely because a retailer sells them. HookedUp excludes them from ordinary verified results unless the product is separately reviewed against FDA health-fraud notices and its labeling and sale can be substantiated.
The map also includes a clinic-services layer: 23 Inland Empire Title X clinics whose current federal records list emergency contraception. A service record does not establish a particular pill brand, same-day appointment, price, eligibility, or live stock. Visitors should contact the clinic before traveling.

7. Open product catalog and product sightings
HookedUp currently publishes no product sightings derived from retailer or delivery-service websites. Those records were removed on August 2, 2026 because the source sites do not provide an open data license suitable for this directory. Store locations remain available from the independently licensed or public-domain directory sources described above, with product inventory marked unverified.
HookedUp does publish a separate product catalog made from structured facts in three government datasets: the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (CC0 1.0), USDA FoodData Central (CC0 1.0), and the FDA National Drug Code Directory. The site republishes factual fields such as product name, brand, dosage form, ingredients, record status, source identifier, and record date. It does not republish retailer product pages or product photography.
The NIH API identifies its data as CC0 1.0. USDA FoodData Central data are published under CC0 1.0. Under the openFDA terms, most FDA data are United States government works and are generally public domain; HookedUp excludes the separately restricted GMDN fields. Source links and record identifiers are retained so each catalog entry can be checked against the originating database.
A catalog entry confirms only that the cited source contains the record. It does not prove that a product is available anywhere in the Inland Empire, that it is currently in stock, or that HookedUp or the source agency endorses it. FDA data have not been validated for medical decision-making, and visitors should use the product label and advice from an appropriate health professional.
HookedUp also reviewed the openly licensed Open Prices dataset for location-specific Inland Empire observations. The August 2, 2026 review found only a few nearby records and none suitable for the current target categories, so no Open Prices observations are republished as local product sightings.
Future product sightings must come from an open-data source, an authorized API or feed, information supplied by the business with permission, or direct field documentation that HookedUp has the right to publish. Product-database records without location evidence will not be presented as local inventory.
8. Homepage illustrations
The product-category thumbnails on the homepage are original, unbranded SVG illustrations created for HookedUp.org. They are visual category cues only and do not represent a particular product, brand, endorsement, or verified store inventory.
